What is mindfulness meditation?
Mindfulness can be described as the awareness that arises from paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, without judgment. Meditation with a focus on mindfulness helps to cultivate that awareness.
Why should I practice meditation? What are the benefits?
Meditation can help reduce stress, calm the nervous system, abate cravings, boost creativity, increase feelings of kindness and compassion, and make your hair shinier. And everything but that last one has been proven in a scientific study.
I can’t sit still with my thoughts for five seconds, let alone 30 minutes. How am I supposed to meditate if I’m so bad at meditating?
As with any new skill, you’re not supposed to be good at it when you begin. You meditate in order to become more calm, easy, graceful….. not because you already possess those things. The beauty of meditation is you can start right where you are - in chaos, in crisis, and overwhelmed - and reap the benefits from the moment you begin.
